We Care Food Pantry Capital Campaign
The staff of We Care Food Pantry along with many members of the community worked tirelessly to fund and construct two–7,200 square foot centralized storage and distribution centers. The first of the distribution centers houses the We Care Food Pantry who distributes 3.2 million pounds of food throughout four counties. The second of We Care Food Pantry’s distribution centers is currently the home of the food bank serving Citrus County. Complete with freezers, loading docks and storage areas these two distribution centers will be available to serve for generations to come.
Why This Is Important…
Locating and storing food is a critical factor for Citrus, Hernando, Sumter and Marion County agencies. When the We Care Food Pantry received a five-acre land donation, we were able to build the largest food pantry in the four county area as well as a food bank dedicated to the citizens and agencies of Citrus County.
Finding new and continuous sources of food is always a primary challenge of We Care Food Pantry. Some food sources are in different states and we must send a 53′ semi-truck to pick up the donation. Frequently, we receive 24 pallets of the same item, and the product is either frozen or refrigerated. We now have the facilities to safely store these valuable items and no longer have to face the heart-wrenching decision to turn down a large food donation due to lack of storage and refrigeration capacity.
